Overseas Scholarship Guidelines

At the beginning of each scholarship-granting period (the month of April), the Education Council is given a written breakdown of funds committed and funds available to it for the next academic year’s scholarships. The Council then decides how these funds will be split between local and overseas scholarships, i.e. the number of scholarships that available.

  1. The number of overseas and local scholarships are publicised at the beginning of March in the year that scholarships are to be tendered.

  2. Scholarships are processed once per year (in April), whether they are for the September or January semesters/quarters.

  3. All students, including students eligible for Merit Scholarships, are required to study locally for the first two years in order to be considered for an overseas scholarship. The only exemptions are those specialized courses the local colleges do not provide.  In such cases, proof of overseas college course requirements would have to be provided and supported.

  4. Priority for overseas scholarships rests with the discretion of the Education Council and is based on identified local needs.

  5. The Cayman Scholar is chosen annually. The term of the scholarship is five years, of which the first two years are completed locally.

  6. Students who choose the A level route are given three year scholarships.

  7. Students who complete their first two years of study locally with a GPA of at least 2.5 are also be eligible for a maximum three year overseas scholarship.
