A’ Level Scholarship Guidelines

The Education Council awards A' Level scholarships to Caymanian students who have completed their secondary education at Government High Schools.  The scholarships, themselves, are tenable at either the St. Ignatius High School or the Cayman Prep High School.  The following are further guidelines:

  • Scholarship applications should be completed and filed with the Secretary, Education Council as soon as possible after the external examination results have been received, and in any case by 15th September of the year the student wishes to commence study.

  • Minimum requirements for a scholarship are 5 CXC general passes at 3 or above, or 5 IGCSE passes at C or above or a combination thereof. Passes in English and Mathematics are compulsory. Students would normally be expected to have a 2 or B in those subjects they wish to sit at Advanced Level.

  • Students must maintain at least a C grade in each of their Advanced Level classes in order for the scholarship to be carried over for the second academic year.

  • Should a student dropout or change courses or institutions, scholarship funds expended by government will be taken into account in the case of future scholarship applications.

  • The value of a scholarship is $2500 per academic year, paid to the institution in two instalments.

  • Scholarship recipients from Cayman Brac who have graduated from the Cayman Brac High School receive an additional $4,500 per year as a contribution to their accommodation costs.

  • Parents’ ability to contribute to the cost of the course is not taken into account.

  • Once a scholarship is awarded and the student wishes to change schools for whatever reason, then the school is responsible to see that the student is in no way penalized, and shall arrange a transfer of funds, or part thereof to the receiving school.
